By Gloria Ikibah

The Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR) has expressed displeasure over the failure of the Chief Executives officers of electricity distribution companies,(DISCOs) and the Generation Companies, (GENCOs) to honour its invitations.

The committee is investigating five-year compliance of the DISCOs to corporate social responsibility requirements in their host communities.

The Chairman of the committee, Honourable Professor Obiageli Lilian Orogbu said it was disrespectful for GENCOs not to even send representatives and lashed at DISCOs for sending junior managers to represent them without even a written authorization in favour of most of them.

She also frowned at their failure to submit their five-year audited accounts and detailed information on the corporate social responsibility activities carried out within their host communities.

She ordered the clerk of the committee, Emmanuel Chukwu to send another summons to the DiSCOs and GENCOs to appear at a date in June failure to honour the invitation of the committee, will compel it to take appropriate measures to compel them to appear before it.

Professor Orogbu had in her opening remarks emphasized that the meeting was an interactive session intended to confirm how the DISCOs and Gwere relating with their host communities regarding corporate social responsibility.

She stated that the committee has the mandate of the leadership of the House of Representatives to undertake the assignment and as such would expect maximum and diligent cooperation from the electricity companies.
