The Deputy Governor of Kano State Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has accused a former governor of the state Abdullahi Ganduje of plotting to restore the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero to the throne.
Naijablitznews recalls that Mr Bayero was deposed along with four other emirs following the enactment of a new law that discarded the previous structure of traditional institutions in Kano.
Governor Abba Yusuf on Wednesday had reinstated the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi to the Kano throne after being deposed four years ago by Mr Ganduje.
Following the reinstatement of Mr Sanusi, Governor Yusuf had issued a 48-hour deadline to Mr Bayero and the four other deposed emirs to leave their palaces and return all government properties in their possession.
At the time, Mr Bayero had been away on a visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ogun state.
However, on Friday, Mr Gwarzo told journalists that Mr Ganduje was trying to return Mr Bayero as the Emir of Kano “by force” using the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.
Mr Gwarzo said: “We are reliably informed that the former governor of Kano state Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, using the office of the National Security Adviser is trying everything possible to bring back the dethroned emir and force him back on the people.
“The issue of appointment and dethronement of emirs and chiefs is squarely the responsibility of the state House of Assembly, the state government and the local government. The constitution is very clear about that.
“Nobody has any right to interfere or impose or force anybody on Kano people. The office of the NSA has been using security personnel. We understand that early this morning, they have chartered a flight or two for the former emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.
“They brought him back to Kano. We are reliably informed that the Acting National Chairman with active connivance of the National Security Adviser (NSA), has smuggled in the former emir into Kano state.
“That doesn’t mean anything apart from creating chaos and unnecessary crisis. That we cannot accept. It’s unbelievable but it is real. The level of impunity is getting too much. The state is in serious tension and only God knows what will happen.”
The Deputy Governor also alleged that the security agents have been ordered by the NSA office to storm the palace and forcefully remove Emir Sanusi and bring back Emir Bayero.
“That will be vehemently resisted by the people of the state. You can see people trooping in here (the emir’s palace). And certainly, people will not allow that to happen. We will do everything possible, we will use every means to resist it,” he warned.
