NRC Gives Update On Derailed Abuja-bound Train

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has assured passengers that normal train services between Kaduna-Rigasa and Idu-Abuja would continue despite a minor derailment incident this morning at Jere station.

NRC said this on Sunday in a press release, signed by its Deputy Director, Public Relations, Yakubu Mahmood.

It was reported earlier that the train which conveyed dozens of passengers departed Kaduna around 8:05 a.m. but derailed at Jere about an hour later.

Three carriages were said to have gone off the tracks.

The statement partly reads, “The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation hereby informs the general public, especially our valued passengers that normal passenger train services between Kaduna-Rigasa and Idu Abuja continue despite minor derailment of our coach at Jere station this morning.”

NRC said that all passengers on the affected train safely reached their destinations, adding that a team of engineers has been deployed to the site to address the issue.

“All the passengers on board the Kaduna-Rigasa to Idu Abuja arrived at their respective destinations safely.

“Meanwhile, the team of NRC engineers is already at the site to restore the affected locations,” the statement read.

Mahmood expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the incident.

He said, “Nigerian Railway Corporation Management regrets any inconveniences to our affected valued passengers.

“NRC wishes to assure our valued passengers of our efforts towards ensuring their safety and comfort always.”
