Security operatives still guarding Bayero’s Nassarawa Palace despite Court Judgment

By Kayode Sanni-Arewa

Soldiers and police officers have cordoned off the street leading to the Nassarawa palace, where Aminu Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, is residing.

Surrounding streets are also cordoned off, and the palace itself is heavily fortified.

Following a court order, Bayero has been restrained from claiming the title of Emir pending a legal decision.

Amina Aliyu, the presiding judge, issued the ruling in response to an ex parte application filed by Ibrahim Isa Wangida, legal counsel to the applicants.

Tension has gripped Kano since Muhammadu Sanusi was reinstated as Emir last Friday.

The Kano state house of assembly amended a 2019 law used by then-governor Abdullahi Ganduje to depose Sanusi.

This law had divided the emirate into separate entities, leading to the dismissal of all Emirs.

While others have complied with the directive to vacate their palaces, Bayero has not, sparking protests among his supporters across Kano.
