The Bichi Development Association (Inuwar Masarautar Bichi) has cried out following the dissolution of the Emirate Council by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the group, over 3000 citizens of the area will lose their jobs.
The Development Association cautioned the State Government and the State Assembly to as a matter of urgency reverse the repealed Emirates Bill which allowed for the dissolution of the Emirates.
The Secretary of the (Inuwar Masarautar Bichi,) Engr. Bello Gambo told the media during a press conference on Tuesday that what the State Government and the Assembly did in abolishing the five Emirates was unacceptable.
He said the Government lost focus when it went ahead blindly and dissolved the Councils without recourse to the fact that they were making frantic development gains in the State.
Bello warned that they would resist the government’s plans to appoint what they termed 2nd Class Emirs for them or send District Heads, adding that what they want is an Emir.
“We reject in totality any planned appointment of a 2nd Class Emirs for us or rather a District Head as the case might be.
“Our Emir should be allowed to continue, nothing less, we will not accept anything”, Bello Gambo said.
He added that the five Emirates were created with a mission to bring rural communities closer to the Government, and that overtime they have achieved those objectives.
“We are witnesses today of the fact that apart from stopping Urban/Rural Migration, they have ensured that many enjoyed the dividends of democracy in various means and ways.
“Go to Bichi and see how the Emirate Council played a role in turning around the area to a mega City just like other areas of Gaya, Karaye and Rano.”
“We are not begging for the government to sustain our Emirates, we are asking and pressuring them that they should be allowed to continue, that is our resolution,” he declared.
