Policeman ‘Accidentally’ Kills Two Youths In Ekiti

A Policeman in Ekiti State has been arrested and detained at the state command after stray bullets accidentally discharged from his gun led to the death of two people in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti, leading to confusion in the town.

The victims who were among the youths in the area met their untimely death when the police were attempting to arrest a suspected internet fraudster.

An anonymous source who spoke with LEADERSHIP said, “The fraudster had hit a bikeman and the passenger while they were being pursued by the policemen who caused the accident. But the irate youths stopped them from arresting them. It was in that process the gun was shot and two people were killed.”

Another source said, “Trouble started when some youths accosted a ‘hit and run’ driver who knocked a commercial motorcyclist and a passenger, breaking the legs and arms of the victims in the process.

“The yet-to-be-identified driver put a call to the men of the Rapid Response Squad. One of them opened fire and hit two persons in the process. They were confirmed dead at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.”

Confirming the incident, the police, in a statement signed by the Ekiti State Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, said the officer responsible for the shooting has been disarmed, arrested and detained and will face disciplinary action.

Abutu, who disclosed that the Command is already in touch with the families of the deceased, said the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, commiserates with the families and assured them that discreet investigation has commenced and justice shall prevail.

The statement read, “On 28/05/2024 at about 22:30hrs, a serious motor vehicle/motorcycle accident occurred involving a Lexus car and a Jincheng motorcycle along Omisanjana Area of Ado-Ekiti.

“The Command, upon the receipt of the information, deployed the State Traffic Section to the Scene to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order as well as ensuring the safety of the victims.

“On getting to the scene, the operatives met a resistance as some irate youths disallowed them from performing their lawful duty and insisted on carrying out jungle justice. This necessitated a call for re-enforcement to assist the officers on ground.

“However, in the process, one of the officers accidentally fired a shot that fatally injured two persons.

“The officer responsible for the shooting has been disarmed, arrested and detained and shall be made to face disciplinary action immediately.”

Lagos hoodlums made to sweep pedestrian bridge for defecating on it

Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has disciplined some individuals for defecating on the Ile Epo Pedestrian Bridge in the Abule Egba area of the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X.com on Saturday.

Wahab stated, “The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources enforcement team has taken decisive action at Ile Epo Pedestrian Bridge, addressing the issue of hoodlums who defiled the bridge with waste and defecation.”

The offenders were arrested on Saturday and tasked with cleaning the bridge, removing all waste and restoring it to a hygienic condition.

Similarly, the commissioner said hotspots were raided and hoodlums nabbed.

He said: “In the early hours of today, the Lagos State Environmental Task Force embarked on raid of some notable spots within Ikeja.

“Some miscreants had turned them to safe havens to perpetrate evil act by unleashing attack on unsuspecting late and early hours innocent passers-by, particularly those coming in and out of Ambiance Hotel within the area.

“They dispossesses them of their personal belongings.

“The area raided includes black spots around Ayinke House, Ikeja, under bridge and all around Ambiance Hotel. 27 suspects were arrested and will be charged to court,” he noted.

EFCC nab yahoo boy for k!lling operative in Anambra

A suspected internet fraudster, who allegedly killed an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during an arrest operation in Anambra, has been detained.

An official of the anti-graft agency told TheCable that the suspect opened fire on the EFCC operatives during an operation on Friday, killing an operative in the process and injuring another.

The source said the slain officer was buried in Sokoto on Saturday, adding that the suspect is being detained at the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu state.

“The incident was a very unfortunate one; the dead officer has been buried today in Sokoto; the incident shows the dimension that internet fraud is taking,” he said.

“The guy (suspect) has also been detained at our office in Enugu today.”

When TheCable reached out to Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, for comment, messages sent to his WhatsApp were delivered, but he did not respond to calls put through to his mobile phone.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, confirmed to TheCable that a suspect attacked EFCC operatives, resulting in one death and a serious injury to another official.

Ikenga said the command responded to a distress call on Friday, arrested an unnamed suspect, and recovered a pump-action gun in the Ifite area of the state.

“Anambra police operatives in the early hours of 17/1/2025 responded to a distress call at No. 1 Ekwutife Close, Ifite, and arrested one suspect and recovered one pump-action gun, where operatives of the Economic Financial Crime Commission Operatives on investigation activities were attacked by a suspect, which resulted in the death of one and serious injury to another of the operatives,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that police have commenced an investigation into the incident, adding that further developments will be communicated.

Man showers wife with hot oil

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Mr. Sholola Kazeem, for bathing his wife, Sholola Mutiat, with hot oil and stabbing her in the head during a heated argument.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who made this known in a statement issued on Saturday said the incident occurred at about 12:20pm on Saturday at the Ring Road area of Owode in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

Odutola said, “The Divisional Police Officer in Owode Egba division has promptly intervened in a case involving gender-based violence and assault against a housewife, leading to the arrest of her husband for causing various injuries to her.

“On January 18, 2025, at about 12:20hrs, the divisional police officer received a report from members of the Ring Road community regarding an incident involving Sholola Kazeem, a male resident, and his wife, Sholola Mutiat, who resided at the same address.

“It was reported that Sholola Kazeem, in an uncontrollable anger over a misunderstanding, poured hot oil over his wife’s body and also stabbed her in the head.”

The police spokesperson said that the victim was taken to Ore Ofé Hospital for medical attention, and that the crime scene was examined.

Odutola added, “The suspect has been apprehended and is currently under investigation.”
