STRIKE UPDATE: Industrial action continues until further notice -NLC

By Ojomah Austin.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has revealed that the ongoing nationwide strike will continue despite the agreement signed with the Federal Government at Monday’s meeting.

It said the strike would subsist until after house keeping by its various organs.

The congress, in a post on X, on Tuesday said the industrial action which had grounded the nation’s economy would continue until Tuesday’s meeting of organs of the union where all resolutions of Monday’s meeting were expected to be reviewed.

“Until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today, June 4, we are still on strike,” the post read.

The Federal Government had expressed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to raise the N60,000 offered as the minimum wage.

Recall that the organised labour was disposed to come down to N100, OOO.

The agreement reached on Monday night had stated that, “The President of Nigeria, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000; and the Tripartite Committee will convene daily for the next week to finalise an agreeable National Minimum Wage.”

The organised labour had also agreed to “immediately hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer, and no worker would face victimisation as a consequence of participating in the industrial action.”

Also, organised labour is insisting that minimum wage issues should be reviewed annually.
