Abuja Brickhall School: Autopsy report of 4-year-old Miguel revealed

The report of an autopsy conducted on 4-year-old Miguel Ovoke, a pupil of Brickhall School, Abuja, who died on April 24, 2024, has been revealed.

The report, which was released by the management of the school on Friday, revealed that the pupil died after choking on a piece of meat in his homemade lunch.

DAILY POST recalls that the incident occurred during the school’s lunch break. The incident triggered controversy on social media.

According to the school’s statement, Miguel started choking on the meat in his lunch, which consisted of rice, stew, plantain and assorted meat.

“When the emergency manoeuvres to free his throat proved futile, he was rushed to the sick bay where our certified nurse also carried out the appropriate emergency medical responses to dislodge the piece of meat, but to no avail,” the school said.

Miguel was then rushed to Excel Specialist Hospital, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead.

Subsequently, the hospital issued a medical report saying that the cause of death was asphyxiation.

The school said it immediately notified Miguel’s parents of the incident.

The autopsy was conducted at the National Hospital, Abuja, with representatives from all interested parties, including members of the victim’s family.

“The autopsy result showed that Miguel choked on a piece of meat in his homemade lunch,” the school said in its statement.

Following the release of the autopsy report, Miguel’s parents have “accepted the incident as ‘an act of God’,” the school said.

A final-year student of the University of Delta, Awele Eluemunor, lost her life after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 100-level female student during a driving lesson with her boyfriend.

The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday when the beginner driver lost control of the car, veered off the road, and struck pedestrians, killing Eluemunor and injuring two others. The injured victims were hospitalized for treatment.

Eluemunor was set to graduate from the College of Nursing in Agbor, Delta State, before the unfortunate incident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the 100-level student’s boyfriend fled the scene, leaving his girlfriend behind.

The Delta Police Command confirmed Eluemunor’s death but did not disclose whether the suspect has been taken into custody.

Danger averted as police rescued six kids from collapsed building

The Lagos State Police Command has rescued six children from a building within an estate in the Ejigbo area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.

He said that on Tuesday at about 12p.m., the police received information that six children were staying alone in a building.

‘The case was transferred from the Ejigbo Police Station to the Gender Unit in Ikeja after reports indicated that the children were left alone in a residential house.

“The children, aged between seven and 13 years, have been rescued and are currently in a protective shelter through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development,’ he said.

Hundeyin said initial findings revealed that their mother was currently abroad for medical treatment and had left them in the care of a caregiver.

The spokesperson added that efforts were underway to contact their mother, and investigations were ongoing to gather more details about the case.

Fire engulfs MTN office in Oyo

An MTN booster station at the University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo State was reportedly engulfed in flames on Saturday.

The fire, attributed to an electrical surge, erupted within the Faculty of Nursing.

According to reports, the incident took place in the early morning hours, around 4 a.m., and resulted in significant damage to the Mikano electrical generator, the control board, and other telecommunications devices at the booster station.

The state capital, Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde, and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande confirmed the incident.

He said, “The state Fire Service’s prompt response doused the fire at the MTN booster station beside the Faculty of Nursing, University of Ibadan.

“The fire personnel, led by ACFS Olubunmi, were promptly deployed to the scene and arrived on time.

“On arrival, we met the Mikano electrical generator and board on fire. We quickly joined hands with the university’s fire marshals, and the fire was extinguished completely. The fire was caused by an electrical surge”, he explained.
