Zulum tasks Nigerian pilgrims to reflect on peace, unity, tolerance
The Borno State governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has asked Muslim pilgrims in Saudi Arabia to dedicate themselves in prayers for peace and unity for Nigeria to thrive.
The governor made the call on Sunday when he visited Nigerian pilgrims in Muna, Saudi Arabia.
Zulum urged the pilgrims to reflect on the lessons tolerance, love, respect, unity and sacrifice during the spiritual journey in everyday lives and when they found themselves in the position of leadership.
“Nigeria is a big country of many tribes, religions, prominently Islam and Christianity. Islam doesn’t condone hatred; it requires peaceful coexistence between the two religions. We should eschew violence and embrace peace with each other and move the country ahead.
“What I saw in Nigerian pilgrims here is tolerance, respect and love for one another, irrespective of culture, tribe or region; therefore, I am calling on all Nigerians to put heads together and pray for unity and peace in Nigeria.
“For Nigeria to develop, we must take into consideration the unity of purpose. Without unity, no meaningful development can take place,” he said.
Zulum urged political leaders in the country to be mindful of their words and avoid statements that could bring disunity to the country.
He implored Nigerian pilgrims in the Holy Land to pray hard for the leaders so that the almighty Allah would give them the wisdom to govern the country well.
He also implored Nigerians to be patient with the current administration, assuring that there’s high hope for better days.
