Rivers: PDP Calls for Calm, Cautions Gov, and Council Chairmen Wants Statusquo TO Remain and LG elections held.

*Wants all pending cases adequately treated

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned Governor Siminalayi Fubara from further escalation of the the dangerous situation in Rivers State.

The Party also cautioned all former LG Chairmen who tenures are purportedly extended by the LG law to act with restraint.

The Rivers State Local Government Chairmen whose tenure has been extended by six months by the State Assembly should patiently wait for all pending cases and maintain the Statusquo as well as the Governor.

The PDP advises the former Rivers State Local Government Council Chairmen to avoid anything capable of jeopardizing the position of the courts on all the pending cases.

The Party frowned at the appointment of interim Committee while litigations are pending.

The parties should be civil and protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

The Party calls on the people of Rivers State to eschew any form of violence that could lead the state into further crisis.

The PDP is a law abiding Party and strongly believes in the rule not force.

Recall that there was a disagreement over claim of tenure elongation of the local council chairmen by the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule.

They had some months ago passed the Local Government Amendment Bill into law.

While Fubara did not assent to the bill, the lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule vetoed him.

The law empowered the Rivers State Assembly to extend the tenure of council chairpersons, their vice, and councillors where it is deemed impossible to hold elections before the end of their three-year tenure.
