The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has given the state’s Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, seven days to fish out the killers of a graduate of the University of Benin, Glory Adekolure, who was allegedly raped and killed in Iyowa Community, Benin City on Thursday.
Recall that, Adekolure, aged 22, was said to have been on her way home from processing her clearance when she was tortured and raped to death by yet-to-be-identified persons and her remains dropped close to her mother’s house.
Following this incident, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, in a statement issued on Wednesday, expressed shock and sadness over the incident.
Nehikhare noted that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has ordered the state Commissioner of Police to fish out the perpetrators of the act in seven days
The statement read, “The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a fresh graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) who was allegedly raped and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in Iyowa Community, within the Benin metropolis.
“It is most disheartening to hear of the sad incident and the state government condemns, in the strongest terms, the dastardly and unconscionable act.
“The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, expresses his deep-felt condolences to the family of the victim and has ordered the state Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory and fish out the perpetrators of the heinous and mindless act within the next seven days,” the statement added.
Adekolure was said to have left home for the institution for her clearance on June 13, 2024, but returned lifeless.
