Islamic Youths Overpower Police Operatives, Kill Man in Bauchi for Alleged Blasphemy

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday in Nasaru village, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where an irate mob killed a young man identified simply as Yunusa over allegations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The incident reportedly stemmed from a heated argument Yunusa had with his friends, during which he allegedly made blasphemous remarks. The argument quickly attracted the attention of bystanders, escalating tensions in the village.

Witnesses stated that Yunusa, a member of the Faira Islamic Sect, was heard making insulting comments about the Prophet. Some young men confronted him, demanding that he retract his statements. When Yunusa refused and repeated the remarks, the situation turned violent.

“He was heard to have spoken words of insult to the Prophet. Some young men challenged Yunusa to withdraw his statement, but he insisted he would not. He even repeated it. That was when they started beating him,” a witness recounted.

Efforts by police personnel to rescue Yunusa were unsuccessful as the officers were overwhelmed by the enraged mob. The mob used stones, sticks, and other objects to fatally assault him. Reports also indicate that the mob attempted to set fire to the police station in the village when officers tried to protect Yunusa there.

As of the time of this report, the police have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
