A newly constructed general hospital situated in Ogurute Uno community, within the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been entrusted to a local deity for safeguarding, following incidents of vandalism by hoodlums.
The decision was prompted by repeated thefts that targeted the hospital’s valuable equipment, including a new ambulance, children’s beds, solar panels, and other essential items worth millions of naira.
Expressing dismay over the situation, a community leader emphasized the frustration caused by these unidentified perpetrators who continue to pilfer crucial medical resources.
“The people gathered here today represent Ogurute Uno community. This is our Ogurute Ulo General Hospital, constructed by the government to serve our villages with necessary medical care equipment. Regrettably, thieves have stolen air-conditioners, solar batteries, an ambulance, TV sets, wheelchairs, stretchers, ceiling fans, and children’s beds. These items were provided not long ago, which exacerbates our concerns.
“In response to these challenges, we have collectively decided to entrust the protection of this General Hospital to our local deities. While this decision may appear drastic, it reflects our determination to halt these malicious acts,” the leader stated.
Furthermore, the community conveyed a message of reconciliation, stating that they would forgive the offenders upon the return of the stolen items without delay.
