An auto crash has claimed seven lives and injured 11 others in Ogun State stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident, which occurred at 21.33pm on Monday, involved a total of 18 persons – 15 male adults and 03 female adults.
A Mazda bus marked MNY894 YN was said to have rammed into the rear of a moving truck.
The Chief Route Commander and Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety CorpsFRSC) Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the crash in a statement and attributed the cause to “excessive speed on the part of the Madza bus driver who rammed into a moving truck from the rear”.
Okpe, who confirmed this on behalf of the Sector Commander, Ogun State Command, Anthony Uga, said the injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere while the remains of the dead were deposited at FOS morgue, Ipara.
She stated: “The crash occurred at 2133 hrs last night with a total of 18 persons involved which comprised 15 male adults and three female adults.
“A total of 11 people were injured ( nine male adults and two female adults) while seven persons were recorded dead from the crash. five male and two females.
“Vehicle involved – a truck with no registration number and a Mazda bus MNY894 YN.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Madza bus driver who rammed on a moving truck from the rear.”
“The injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara .
“FRSC caution motorists to shun speed and use common sense speed limits, especially at night and during the rain due to poor visibility.
“The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun sympathises with the family of the crash victims and advised passengers to always be on alert to correct some wrong mistakes caused by the drivers.”
