Correctional Service dismisses three officers

A Comptroller of Corrections and two other senior officers have been dismissed by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for gross misconduct and acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Service.

Six other personnel were demoted while 13 others received verbal rebuke for various misconducts.

A statement by the spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, said 20 personnel were discharged and acquitted of allegations of misconducts leveled against them. He said the Civil Defence, Correctional Service, Fire, and Immigration Board approved the sanctions.

The Board ‘reviewed various cases of unprofessional conducts, wrongdoings, improper behaviour and serious misconducts of erring personnel, resulting to the dismissal of three personnel, including a Controller of Corrections, for misconducts such as gross negligence of duty, absence without leave, trafficking in illicit items, general inefficiency, falsification of results etc’, he noted.
