Senate wants expansion of Lagos/Calabar Coastal Highway to North East

The Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to expand the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to include states in the North-Eastern part of the country.

This development followed a motion raised by Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, representing Gombe Central, during a Senate session.

Senator Goje emphasized the urgent need to integrate the North-East Geo-Political Zone into the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Legacy Road Infrastructure Projects.

He highlighted the critical importance of equitable development across all regions of Nigeria, stressing that the lack of infrastructure in the North-East exacerbates security challenges and impedes socio-economic growth.

Supporting the motion, Senator Diket Plang from Plateau Central also called for the inclusion of some North-Central zones in the road project.

In its resolution, the Senate urged the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, to include the Akwanga-Jos-Gombe Highway among the key national road projects, alongside the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway.
