Tragedy hit the Issele-Azagba community in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday, when a thunder struck during a torrential downpour, claimimg the lives of two individuals.
One of the victims was a Point of Service, POS, operator and the father of a one-year-old baby girl.
The other victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
A third person, known only as Sunday, was critically injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Asaba.
According to report, the incident occurred around 2 pm as a group of about 13 youths were playing a football game at the Osemeke Primary School field.
During the game, a sudden lightning bolt and thunder strike hit the players and their referee, resulting in the immediate deaths of two participants.
Meanwhile, the state police command said on Wednesday that the incident was not reported at any police station.
According to state police public relations officer SP Bright Edafe,” the matter was not reported in the station, so I can’t confirm the story or the number of deaths in the said thunder strike.”
