Lagos State Government has again sealed popular Ile Epo Market, the second biggest food market in the state after Mile 12.
The market was sealed on Monday by officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Recall that some months ago, the market was shut for about four weeks over environmental infraction.
Details of the infraction committed by the market have not been revealed.
However, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the closure was as a result of heavy filth in the market.
“The market is very very dirty and the state government doesn’t want to take anything to chance with the spread of cholera that is why LAWMA was directed to move in and shut the market.
You can also see heaps of refuse around here. This I think was why the market was shut.”
The state Ministry of Environment is yet to speak on the closure.
