The House of representatives has contributed the sun of N100 million to the Nigerian team for the 2024 Olympics, scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26, 2024.
The Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu who presided over plenary on Wednesday revealed the resolution of the leadership of the House, when the hallowed green chambers played host to the Olympics Team.
Kalu said; “I am conveying the decision of the leadership of the house to you. To kick the ball rolling, we are supporting you with a sum of N100 million.”

Paris 2024 presents a unique opportunity for us to change this narrative and make history once again.
“Let us seize this moment to reclaim our place at the top and bring home the gold that our country so eagerly anticipates”.
Speaker Abbas whose speech was delivered by Kalu, accentuated that funding for sports “cannot be done on the eve of a competition.”
“Proper funding and support must begin years in advance to ensure our athletes are adequately prepared. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has made commendable efforts to reinvigorate the sports sector and the National Assembly will support him fully in this regard”, he added.
On his part, the member representing Dutsin-ma/Ku I’mrfi Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Rep. Balele Aminu also presented the team with a N3 million cheque.
The Minister of Sports, John Enoh and members of the 2024 Olympics/paralympic, who were at the green chamber, presented the lawmakers with the newly unveiled Olympics sports kits during plenary.
