Hashiru Baku, alleged mastermind of the murder of late Brigadier General Harold Udokwere (rtd), has been arrested by the police.

Daily Trust had reported how the general was killed by armed robbers who invaded his private residence at Sunshine Estate, Abuja, in the wee hours of June 21.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, had paraded the suspected killers two days after the incident.

While parading them at the command headquarters in Abuja, he had said two among the robbers were at large and had escaped with the deceased’s pistol.

He gave the names of the suspects as Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi and Mohammed Nuhu, all residents of Apo, a satellite town of Abuja.

He said the suspects were arrested after acting on credible intelligence by operatives of the FCT police command from Utako division led by CSP Victor Godfrey, who trailed them to their hideout.

He said the suspects, who confessed to the crime stabbed the late brigadier general with knife when he tried to resist them from dispossessing him of his pistol.

According to him, the knife allegedly used by the suspects in committing crime was recovered, even as he said the late army general’s phone was recovered from them.

CP Igweh, however, said the command was making all efforts to arrest the two other fleeing robbers and to also recover the army general’s pistol from them.

But addressing journalists while parading the other suspects, on Monday, Igweh said Baku was arrested in Kano State while trying to run away from the country.

“I did show you the four killers, kidnappers, and robbers that killed Brigadier-General Uwe Harrod, retired. Today, I will show you the organiser of the killing and the robbery.

“As well as we have recovered the general’s gun that was with him. We have recovered the wristwatch of the general and the wife’s jewellery which they stole from the general’s house.

“The organiser is here and we have arrested him. He is the organiser. He was in prison and during the Kuje Correctional Centre attack, he escaped.”

“Instead of him to repent, he continued with more audacity. We arrested him in Kano where he was trying to exit the country. We recovered these drugs in his residence. So, that’s what they take and they will continue to be high.”

Hoodlums have abducted 66-year-old Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa, an Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, on Thursday evening.

Uruakpa was reportedly returning from an evening church service when the attackers ambushed her at the entrance of her home, located near the new Ilisan market.

The incident, which occurred around 7 pm, caused panic in the neighborhood, prompting residents and business owners to quickly shut their doors in fear.

According to a local resident who spoke to The Punch on the condition of anonymity, the gunmen forcibly removed Uruakpa from her vehicle and whisked her away in a red Toyota car.

“The woman was coming back from the church in the evening around 7 pm when the gunmen abducted her. I know her very well, she’s a senior nursing staff with Babcock University Teaching Hospital and a member of the Winners’ Chapel.

They dragged her down from her vehicle, put her in their red Toyota car and sped away. It was really like thunder lightning, and such a thing had never happened before in our neighbourhood. It is so strange and scary,” the resident said.

Babcock University’s Director of Communication and Marketing, Dr. Joshua Suleiman, confirmed the abduction, noting that the university is actively seeking more information.
