The House of Representatives has expedited the passage of a bill seeking to raise the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 on Tuesday at plenary.
Naijablitznews.com recalled that President Bola Tinubu had earlier presented the minimum wage bill to the House for consideration and passage into law in a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen at plenary.
The bill gives legal backing to the N70,000 minimum wage recently agreed upon between organised Labour, the organised private sector, and the federal government after a series of long-drawn negotiations changing the figure from N30,000 to N70,000.
The bill also reduces the number of years for consideration of a new minimum wage from five years to three years as promised by President Tinubu at a meeting with leaders of organised labour.
The president in his letter had appealed to the lawmakers to expedite the passage of the minimum wage bill to ensure immediate implementation for the benefit of Nigerian workers.
