…as opposition members stage walkout
By Gloria Ikibah
What seems to be going well turned into a rowdy session at an emergency Plenary of the House of Representatives over the passage of Ways and Means on Wednesday.
The House had reconvened to amend and pass the 2024 Appropriation Act and also the Central Bank of Nigeria Act.
A bill for an Act to Amend the Central Bank of Nigeria Act to increase the CBN’s total advances to the federal government from five per cent to a maximum of fifteen per cent and for Related Matters.
Trouble started at the committee of the whole when the Minority Leader proposed two per cent, but other members of the All Progressives Congress suggested 10 per cent.
When put to a voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who was the presiding officer, for 10 per cent the Nay had it, but he ruled in favour of the Ayes.
Upon this, the opposition lawmakers staged a walkout, and the session became rowdy.
