Just in: Ex-Reps member kidnapped from church, police officer, others k!lled in Delta

Gunmen abducted Ms. Joan Onyemaechi, a former commissioner for Technical Education in Delta State, from the premises of King Jesus and I Church in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, yesterday. Onyemaechi, who is also a former member of the House of Representatives, was taken during a church service.

The attackers killed two persons, one of whom was a police orderly attached to the ex-lawmaker, while another victim, said to be an innocent passerby, was hit by a strayed bullet and died on the spot. Another police orderly and Onyemaechi’s driver sustained gunshots wounds.

From eyewitness accounts, the gunmen who stormed the church off DBS Road started shooting sporadically. In confusion, Onyemaechi was dragged into her Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, and whisked away.

The abduction was confirmed by the Delta Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said: “Two persons, including a policeman, were killed in the incident. Only the former lawmaker was kidnapped.

The brazen attack has raised fears over security in the region, with calls made for security operatives to be more vigilant, as well as for law enforcement agencies to quickly respond to ensure the safe return of Onyemaechi.

Anambra Police arrest native doctor, one other for armed robbery, kidnapping

The police in Anambra arrested a witch doctor and one other suspect for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

The suspects according to a statement by the state police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, said their arrest was made possible following the testimony of a rescued victim who led the police to their hideout.

The victim was said to have been lured to the location initiated by another suspect who is at large before he was abducted on gunpoint, before being moved to a shrine.

The arrested suspects are said to have confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the police with information for possible arrest of other gang members.

One pump action gun was said to have been recovered from the suspects as well as the victim,s vehicle and other incriminating items.

Police Officer interdicted for slapping handcuffed civilian several times

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted a police Officer seen in a viral video assaulting a member of the Public.

Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim, stationed at Tuna Police Station in the Savanna Region has been interdicted with the immediate effect for professional misconduct after a video of him slapping a handcuffed civilian several times went viral.

“The Ghana Police Service has interdicted with immediate effect Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim, stationed at Tuna Police Station in the Savanna Region, for professional misconduct. The Police Officer was sighted in a viral video assaulting a member of the public.” The Police said in a statement.

According to the Police, Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim’s interdiction will help them to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The statement added that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akufo Dampare has reached out to the family of the victim and assured them of support.

His interdiction is to allow for thorough interrogation into his conduct in line with the Police Service Regulations.

Police recover stolen SUV after gun duel with robbers in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command says its operatives have recovered a black Toyota SUV stolen by armed robbers.

In a statement on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said the vehicle was stolen on Thursday around the Lugbe area of the territory.

She explained that the Command received a distress call from a good Samaritan on Thursday evening reporting a carjacking incident in the area.

The PPRO said one Kemi H. Adidiru was driving from Lugbe to the city center when she was abruptly stopped and surrounded by six armed men under a pedestrian bridge along Alieta Road, Lugbe.

The robbers, according to the PPRO, forcefully ejected both the car owner and her driver from the 2012 black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (Reg. No. ABJ 670 EY) and sped off with the car and her belongings.

The statement added that the witness, alarmed by the robbery, promptly notified the Command Control Room, providing crucial information about the vehicle and the suspects’ direction of escape.

“The Police acted quickly, alerting strategic checkpoints and deploying patrol teams across the FCT.

“At approximately 11:35 pm, Police operatives spotted the stolen vehicle at a checkpoint along Dantata Bridge, Galadimawa Road.

“When officers attempted to stop the suspects, they sped away, leading to a high-speed chase towards Airport Junction. Upon reaching another Police checkpoint at the Airport Junction, the suspects opened fire, engaging the Police in a fierce gun battle.

“Thanks to the superior firepower of the police, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and their firearm, fleeing into the surrounding bushes.

“The vehicle was successfully recovered, along with a bag containing an international passport belonging to Halimat Adediru, cash and other valuables.”

The PPRO said the recovered items have since been returned to their rightful owner, who expressed profound gratitude for the prompt response and professionalism of the Police.
