University of Ibadan to Admit Candidates with Below 200 UTME Scores Through Distance Learning

The University of Ibadan (UI) has announced a significant policy change, allowing candidates who scored below 200 in the 2024 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to gain admission through its Distance Learning Centre (DLC). This initiative was unveiled in a statement by Professor Babatunde Omobowale, Director of the DLC, on Monday.

According to Professor Omobowale, candidates interested in pursuing undergraduate degrees at UI will now have the option to enroll via the Open Distance eLearning (ODeL) mode. This decision is part of the university’s broader commitment to making quality education accessible to a wider population.

In his statement, Professor Omobowale emphasized, “UI is committed to making quality education accessible to all. Those who scored below 200 in JAMB UTME or did not sit for the UTME can also take advantage of this opportunity and enroll in any of the University undergraduate programs in ODeL mode.”

This policy change aims to provide educational opportunities to a larger number of students who might have otherwise been excluded due to their UTME scores. The university is set to welcome new and returning students in September.

By embracing this inclusive approach, the University of Ibadan reinforces its mission to offer educational opportunities to all, ensuring that more individuals can achieve their academic goals regardless of their performance in the UTME.
