Govt dislodges illegal cattle rearers under Surulere bridge

The Lagos State Government has dislodged cattle rearers and removed shanties in the Surulere area of Lagos.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed this on Monday noting this was in a bid to ensure cleaner Lagos where there is zero tolerance for illegal activities.

He also revealed that officials mopped up styrofoam packs in the Idumota area of Lagos.

“This morning, the Lagos State Government dislodges cattle rearers and squatters, removes shanties under Western Avenue bridge inward Alaka, Surulere,” he wrote on X.com.

In another post, he said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps discovered a styrofoam packs warehouse in Idumota. The product has been confiscated and taken to the task force office for incineration.”

At the weekend, the state government revealed that LAGESC officials apprehended a truckload of banned styrofoam packs in transit in the state.

LAGESC Surulere division intercepted the truckload of styrofoam packs that were bound for Cameroon (in a Mercedes-Benz 814) at the Ojuelegba area of the state.

The state government had in January, through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, announced a ban on the use and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state to prevent further environmental damage.
