Delta okays land for petroleum varsity

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday, formally presented a Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun Resource Centre in Isiokolo.

While urging the university to positively impact the host community, Oborevwori expressed the hope that “FUPRE will significantly enhance development within the Ethiope East Local Government Area.”

The governor made the presentation of the title document to the management of the university during a courtesy visit by the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, His Majesty Michael Omeru Ogurimerime, Ukori I, along with Agbon chiefs and FUPRE officials to the Government House in Asaba.

He said, “Delta State is recognised as a hub for higher education, a status that has been established over time. As Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, I supported the creation of three universities because I understand the transformative power of education.

“The acquisition of wealth means little without education. Upon learning of the kingdom’s land donation and their request for a fee waiver on the C of O, we acted promptly. We approved a waiver totalling N111.5m and a ground rent of N18.4m, allowing you to obtain the C of O at no cost.

“FUPRE is a specialised university that we greatly need in our community. Ethiope East, being an oil-producing local government, stands to benefit significantly from its establishment, as it will help stimulate local development. The research centre is expected to bring substantial advancements to the region.”

The governor also promised the grant the institution’s request for internal roads and building facilities.
