Two suspected vandals have revealed that they are capable of removing the brain box of any vehicle in less than two minutes
The suspects, Jefferson Emeka Joshua, 47, and Donatus Okoro, 45, were arrested by detectives from the Lagos State Police Command.
Their arrest followed series of complaints to the state Commissioner of Police about the activities of unknown thieves who specialise in vandalising vehicles parked by the side of the road inside estates.
Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, detailed a crack team of detectives to fish out those behind the theft.
In their confessional statements to the police, the suspects admitted removing brain box of some vehicles in the area.
“It is easier to remove the brain box of a car than any other parts. In fact, it takes less than two minutes to remove the brain box of any vehicle,” Donatus told his investigating police officers during interrogation.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest of two members of the gang, said the suspects were specialists in the act of vandalisation of vehicles.
He said on August 3, detectives traced Jefferson Emeka Joshua to his hideout at the Ilewe junction, in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
‘’Through his confessional statement, Donatus Okoro was also traced to his hideout at Idowu Street, Ajegunle, from where he was arrested.
“Both suspects confessed to the crime and their operational vehicle, one Toyota Camry car, with registration number FKL 260 JJ Lagos, a police beret, one handcuff were recovered. ‘’Efforts are being intensified to arrest other members of the syndicate,” he added.
