A Federal High Court in Abuja has set September 9, 2024, as the date to hear a motion challenging the detention of Isaac Bristol, who is alleged to be behind the well-known whistleblower social media account, ‘PIDOMNigeria.’
The court has also slated September 11, 2024, for the hearing of Bristol’s bail application.
This follows an earlier order issued by Justice Emeka Nwite on September 3, 2024, which directed that Bristol remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre until September 23, 2024, after his arraignment by the police.
During the court session, Bristol pleaded not guilty to the nine-count charge related to cybercrime offences.
These charges include allegations that he solicited support for the #EndBadGovernance protests, made false accusations of money laundering against President Bola Tinubu, and unlawfully handled classified documents in violation of the Official Secrets Act of 1962.
According to an online newspaper, Bristol’s legal team, led by Deji Adeyanju, has requested bail on health grounds. While the court denied the oral request, the judge instructed the defense to submit a formal written application.
Adeyanju had also requested that his client be kept in police custody due to health concerns, but the court ordered Bristol to remain in the Kuje Correctional Centre until the September 23 hearing.
