Police probe Oyo PDP chieftain’s abduction

The Oyo State police command, on Thursday, commenced investigations into the abduction of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Benedict Akika.

Akika was kidnapped at his Olorunda residence in the Lagelu Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday night.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the abduction, said the investigation had commenced on the incident.

He said, “Investigation has commenced into the matter. Updates will be provided accordingly, please.”

It was learnt that gunmen invaded the politician’s residence and threatened to shoot any of the occupants who might put up resistance.

A family source who preferred anonymity told our correspondent that the victim was relaxing with his family when the gunmen arrived.

The source said, “There were sporadic gunshots aimed to scare residents and passersby.

“He was whisked away on Wednesday night to an unknown destination.”

Another source said, “He was kidnapped last night. This is a man who empowered some widows and the underprivileged with work tools worth millions of naira at his Olorunda residence a few weeks ago.”
