The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University chapter, has ordered indefinite strike over unmet demands.

This was announced after a congress meeting on Wednesday.

This is the first internal strike since the university was founded.

Their grievances include the non-implementation of a 2021 Memorandum of Action, which outlined financial improvements for the institution.

Among the unresolved issues are unpaid academic allowances, the lack of a training fund for academic staff, unfulfilled minimum wage adjustments, and the non-payment of promotional arrears for the years 2020 to 2023.

Despite previous agreements to provide increased funding, lecturers claim the government only disbursed additional funds for two months in 2021.

The underfunding has also forced the university to introduce extra fees, placing more strain on students.

Efforts to resolve the issues through discussions with prominent state figures have been unsuccessful, leaving the lecturers with no option but to strike.

“The members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University branch have endured a debilitating working conditions in the university for too long as a result of issues of inadequate funding, non implementation of the content of the 2021 MOA, and refusal to implement current salaries table for academics in Nigerian universities

The union has sought for amicable resolution of the issues by requesting for the intervention of eminent personalities in the state with no tangible outcome”, they said.

A man dubbed Zimbabwe’s own “Baltasar” faced violent retribution from a group of enraged husbands after being accused of having affairs with their wives.

In a video shared by Crimewatch Zimbabwe on X (formerly Twitter), several men from the Mapostori sect were seen beating the man, holding him down while others struck him with what appeared to be rubber sticks.

The video, recorded by a witness and later posted on social media, shows the men interrogating him. At one point, one of the attackers questions, “How many women have you slept with, and why did you do it?” Reports indicate that the man allegedly engaged in these relationships after some women claimed their husbands were not satisfying them.

Social media reactions were swift, with users tagging the police to intervene and arrest the men involved in the assault. Many viewers expressed shock, noting a recent rise in arrests related to assaults on cheating partners and their spouses.
