PANDEF seeks urgent action to mitigate flooding in coastal states

By Mario Deepromoter

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the concerned Federal Government agencies to take immediate and decisive actions to protect the coastal states of the country from the impending flood coming from Rivers Niger and Benue and the spate of sea water rise from the Atlantic Ocean.

National Secretary of the Forum, Dr Alfred Mulade said the flood poses an existential threat to the lives, properties, and livelihoods of millions of Nigerians living in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Edo states. In a Save Our Soul (SOS) message, the PANDEF urged Mr. President to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the double-ended flooding, including:
reinforcing and upgrading embankments, evacuation of people living in high-risk areas and providing comprehensive support for affected communities, including rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
PANDEF stressed that every minute counts, and prompt attention was crucial to prevent catastrophic consequences.
