A member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Olaka Nwogu, has said the party never summoned Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
There had been reports that Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, was summoned by the party over alleged anti-party activities and his prolonged rift with Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
But Nwogu, a member of the Disciplinary Committee, described the report as false and that the committee had not even sat to discuss issues concerning the minister.
Nwogu, who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District, said individuals familiar with the situation contributed to spreading the misinformation for personal reasons.
The erstwhile lawmaker said there had been various allegations and attempts to misrepresent the committee’s work, stressing that the committee was still organising itself to properly address its responsibilities.
He said: “I am a member of the disciplinary committee of the party. I was disturbed when the report came that Nyesom Wike had been summoned at a time when the disciplinary committee has not even met to consider any of these things.
“There has been a lot of misinformation to the public, sometimes by people who should know better and shouldn’t do that for reasons they know best.
“There are allegations that are flying all over the place; even the committee’s work is being put in a different light from what the committee has tried to do. The committee is still organising itself to now look at its functions.”
