Deserving Citizens Should Be Celebrated Alive, Not At Death – Wike

The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has called on Nigerians to change their attitudes and learn to celebrate deserving citizens during their lifetime and not when they are dead.

Wike stated that such celebrations, especially for those who make sacrifices in public services, are morale boosters and motivations for more.

The Minister said this over the weekend, when he organized a reception in honour of former FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, who had just been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police, and former Director, Department of State Services( DSS) Ado Mu’azu, who also was promoted to the position of Assistant Director General, DSS.

Wike commended the duo for their commitment and professionalism that have helped in the fight against insecurity within the nation’s capital.

He said, “I’ve always said that people who are committed, people who make sacrifices deserve to be celebrated.

“I don’t believe it’s only when you die that people will honour and reward you.

“While you are alive and you have worked, you should be remembered and that is why we said these two gentlemen who have worked with us, to make all of us sleep well with our two eyes closed, it’s important we honour them, we thank them for their services”.

“All of us can attest to the fact that AIG Igweh is a committed police officer who is determined to fight criminality and criminals. We thank God Almighty that God saved his life”.

Earlier in their vote of thanks, AIG Igweh, who spoke for himself and Co-celebrant, said the Minister’s kind gesture was a morale booster, which will spur them to more commitment.

Igweh also used the occasion to warm criminals to stay away from Abuja and environs, noting that he is still around, having been assigned Zone 7, comprising FCT, Kaduna and Niger States.
