The Peoples Democratic Party’s G5 group, led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, convened a meeting in Abuja on Friday.
This group comprises notable figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former governors Sam Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
A reliable source, who wished to remain anonymous because his not authorised to speak on the matter, exclusively told Saturday PUNCH that leaders of the PDP recently gathered to address pressing concerns within the party.
Recall that in the lead-up to the 2023 Presidential election, the G5 group made some significant demands.
One key condition for their support of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s candidate, was the replacement of then-PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu with a Southern representative.
However, this demand was rejected, leading some members of the G5 to openly or discreetly oppose Atiku, ultimately contributing to his election loss.
The source stated “Yes, they met briefly on Friday to discuss as friends and brothers. The discussion centered on the PDP and other issues they considered important. They also review their strategies.
