Nigeria Will Suffer If INEC Mishandles Edo Election – Odinkalu

By Kayode Sanni-Arewa

Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has issued a stern warning, stating that Nigeria could face significant consequences if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) mishandles the ongoing Edo governorship election. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Odinkalu underscored the strategic importance of Edo State, stressing that any disruption in the election process could negatively affect the entire country.

Chidi Odinkalu remarked, “If Mahmood Yakubu and @inecnigeria mess with #EdoDecides2024, all of Nigeria will suffer: there is hardly anywhere you can go in Nigeria without passing through Edo

Odinkalu’s criticism of INEC’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, follows an earlier statement made on September 14, where he questioned Yakubu’s handling of election-related matters. His comments prompted a response from Kamson Chidubem, convener of the Civic Integrity Initiative (CII), who accused Odinkalu of engaging in “biased criticisms and media abuses.
