The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the Federation’s Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen to continue in his role as Head Coach of the Super Eagles, and lead the team in its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya next month.

The 58-year-old, in temporary charge of the squad he had led three times previously, steered the three-time African champions to a 3-0 defeat of Benin Republic and scoreless draw with Rwanda in Matchdays 1 and 2 earlier this month.

Eguavoen and the current technical crew that also includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, otherwise known as CHAN.

With the departure of Mr. Randy Waldrum, the Executive Committee also approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee for Coach Justin Madugu to lead the remaining technical crew and take charge of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, pending the appointment of a substantive Head Coach.

After Helping Galatasaray Beat Fenerbahce, Victor Osimhen Given a Special Bonus of N72 Million. Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been rewarded with a special bonus of 1.5 million Turkish Lira (approximately N72 million) by Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek, following the team’s impressive 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Intercontinental Derby, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

Osimhen, on loan from Napoli, played a crucial role in Galatasaray’s win, registering an assist in the match. His skillful chest control in the box allowed Dries Mertens to tap the ball past Fenerbahce goalkeeper Livakovic, securing Galatasaray’s second goal.

This bonus is a testament to Osimhen’s instant impact at Galatasaray. Despite not scoring in his first two games, the Nigerian international has quickly become a key player in the team’s attack.

Galatasaray’s victory ended Fenerbahce’s record-breaking 32-game unbeaten run in the Super Lig, with their last loss dating back to November 4, 2023, against Trabzonspor.

Raheem Sterling scores first Gunners goal in league cup defeat of Bolton

Published

on

Raheem Sterling scored his first Gunners goal and Jack Porter became the club’s youngest-ever starter in a 5-1 demolition of Bolton in the League Cup on Wednesday, while Liverpool reached the last 16 with a 5-1 win against troubled West Ham.

Sterling marked his maiden Arsenal start following his transfer deadline day move from Chelsea with a second-half strike in the third-round tie at the Emirates Stadium.

The 29-year-old will hope his goal marks the start of a career revival after a disappointing two-year spell at Chelsea.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta had made seven changes from Sunday’s stormy 2-2 draw at Premier League champions Manchester City, including giving goalkeeper Porter his record-breaking debut in place of the injured David Raya.

Aged 16 years and 72 days old, Porter was the youngest player ever to start for Arsenal, surpassing the previous record holder Cesc Fabregas, who was 16 years and 177 days when he played against Rotherham in 2003.

Porter was Arsenal’s second youngest ever player overall after Ethan Nwaneri, who was 15 years and 181 days, when he made his debut in 2022.

Declan Rice put Arsenal ahead in north London after 16 minutes with a clinical finish from the edge of the area for his first goal this season.

Fittingly on Porter’s record-setting day, it was Nwaneri who doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 37th minute with his first goal for the club.

After surprise defeat: Anthony Joshua opens up

Anthony Joshua says he has no plans to quit the ring following a shock defeat to Anthony Dubois in their IBF heavyweight title fight on Saturday night.

The British boxer of Nigerian heritage and two-time former world heavyweight champion was knocked down four times by fellow Briton Dubois before his eventual fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium in front of 96,000 fans.

The defeat was Joshua’s fourth in his professional career, and first after putting together a four-match win sequence following his double loss to Oleksandr Usyk — when he lost his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles and failed to reclaim them.

Despite the latest debilitating defeat to hitherto less-fancied Dubois, the 34-year-old has insisted that he will not “run away” and quit boxing.

Speaking to reporters in his post-fight press conference, Joshua said: “And you’re probably asking, ‘Do I want to continue fighting?’ Of course, I want to continue fighting.

“That’s why I said we took a shot at success and came up short, and what does that mean now? We gonna [sic] run away. We gonna [sic] live to fight another day. And that’s what I am, I’m a warrior.

“We have to give credit to our opponent. I say well done to him and his team.”

Joshua has fought 32 professional fights with 28 wins and four losses. Two of his defeats have been
