FG set to evacuate Nigerians in Lebanon

Following the crisis in Lebanon, the Federal Government said it has commenced arrangements for the evacuation of Nigerians willing to return home.

As part of the arrangements, the Federal Government convened a multi-stakeholder meeting to get briefs on the condition of Nigerians in Lebanon and preparations by various agencies towards the success of the evacuation exercise.

In a statement in Abuja yesterday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) stated that it is coordinating the evacuation exercise.

NEMA said the process for evacuation had started with mobilisation of the citizens, adding that it would be followed immediately with all requirements to bring them home.

The agency stated that the leader of the Nigerian community, through a telephone conversation, acknowledged the support of the Nigerian Mission in Lebanon, especially in their safe movement out of high-risk areas.

It added that no Nigerian life has been lost.

Given the planned voluntary evacuation, NEMA advised Nigerians willing to be evacuated back home to go to the embassy in Beirut where they will be profiled for the airlift.
