The Defence Headquarters has announced the killing of a notorious terrorist commander, Mai Hijabi, during a military operation in Jigawa State, as part of broader efforts to dismantle terror groups across northern Nigeria. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed this while briefing journalists on the successes of the troops over the week.
Buba reported that 165 terrorists were neutralized, 238 suspects were arrested, and 188 kidnapped victims were rescued in various operations. He emphasized that the military’s sustained offensive has significantly weakened the operational capabilities of terror groups.
In addition to counter-terrorism operations, troops in the Niger Delta cracked down on oil theft, arresting 35 suspected thieves and preventing the theft of crude oil worth approximately N688 million. They also destroyed 65 illegal refining sites, recovering 789,200 liters of stolen crude and 64,950 liters of illegally refined diesel.
Weapons seized during the week included 81 AK-47 rifles, 153 assorted weapons, and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition, further crippling the terrorists’ capacity to engage in combat.
