Sowore Blasts Amaechi for Criticizing Youth Silence Amid Economic Crisis, Calls for Revolution

Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has lashed out at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his remarks questioning why Nigerian youths have remained silent despite the harsh economic realities under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Sowore accused Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor and prominent figure in ex-President Buhari’s administration, of being one of the key figures responsible for Nigeria’s current economic and leadership crises. According to him, Amaechi and others like him have suppressed the potential of Nigerian youths, preventing them from reclaiming and transforming the country.

Amaechi, in a recent interview, had expressed disappointment at the lack of protests or public outrage, particularly from the youth, in response to Nigeria’s growing cost of living, fuel price hikes, and other economic pressures. He said, “I expected more agitation, especially from the youth… It seems people are not expressing the kind of anger I expected.”

In response, Sowore criticized Amaechi’s hypocrisy, pointing out that the same leaders who contributed to Nigeria’s problems now expect the youth to “clean up after them.” He further noted that when the youth do try to lead, they are dismissed for supposedly lacking experience, an argument he called absurd.

Sowore, who ran for president under the African Action Congress (AAC), reiterated his long-standing call for a revolution, stating that this is the only way to resolve Nigeria’s leadership and economic woes.
