The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has strongly criticized former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for his recent remarks encouraging Nigerians to protest against the hardships in the country. Matawalle accused Amaechi of inciting violence and unrest, labeling his comments as reckless and irresponsible.
In a statement released by the Director of Information in the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike, on Saturday, Matawalle issued a stern warning to Amaechi. He urged him to refrain from making inflammatory remarks that could threaten the nation’s peace and stability.
Matawalle expressed concern over the potential dangers of such rhetoric, emphasizing that it is irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their government. He highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is actively working to address national challenges through impactful reforms.
“It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine struggles of our citizens for selfish political gain,” Matawalle stated. He reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Nigeria, warning that any attempts to destabilize the country through incitement will not be tolerated.
“We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the current situation for their benefit. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his cohorts,” Matawalle declared.
He concluded by urging Amaechi to collaborate with the government to advance the nation, rather than making short-sighted assertions.
