PDP headache: Major reasons Publicity Sec was shoved aside emerges

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given the reasons behind the suspension of its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The party’s acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that Ologunagba was suspended for actions considered harmful to the party’s interests, particularly concerning the political tensions in Rivers State.

He said Ologunagba was suspended due to his involvement in anti-party activities, including issuing a public statement encouraging participation in the Rivers State Local Government elections.

His stance, which supported the elections proceeding despite ongoing legal disputes, reportedly conflicted with the party’s official position during the tense political situation in the state.

Abdullahi revealed during a press conference in Abuja that the decision to suspend Ologunagba followed a vote by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), with eight members in favour of the suspension and four against.

He stated that Ologunagba’s actions went against party protocol, prompting the NWC to act to maintain discipline and unity within the party.

The PDP also announced the suspension of its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), for similar anti-party activities.

A special committee led by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, has been established to investigate the allegations against both suspended officials, under the party’s constitution.

Abdullahi stressed that the suspensions were not politically motivated but were necessary to ensure that the party remains united and disciplined amid growing internal conflicts.
