Umahi flags off 1068km Sokoto-Badagry super highway

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi on Thursday flagged off the construction of the 1068km section 1 Phase 1A 3 Lane single carriageway Sokoto-Badagry superhighway in Illela local government area of the state.

Speaking while flagging off the project, Umahi said the road project would cover 6 states and Sokoto state will have 120 kilometers.

According to the minister, other states are Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo and Ogun, adding that according to the contract agreement, the 120-kilometre Sokoto road would be completed by 2027.

He said the President Tinubu-led administration’s was committed to completing all the ongoing road projects in the country

David Umahi further stated that the entire legacy super highways which the North accounts for 52 percent and South 48, will gulp over N13 trillion.

“President Tinubu is using concrete to ensure that any road he construct last for 100 years. The National Security Adviser has also gone ahead to put security architecture in place to ensure that all constructions are executed hitch free.

In his speech, the governor of Sokoto state, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu commended President Tinubu for the project and assured that the state government would do everything possible to ensure adequate security of those that would work at the field.

Ahmed said that the 1068km road when completed will add socio- economic values to Sokoto and states covered by the project.

Ahmed Aliyu assured the president that people of Sokoto state will reciprocate the gestures come 2027 general elections.

Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar reminded President Tinubu that the welfare of Nigerians should equally be considered very seriously, aside from the road projects.

Dignitaries at the ceremony include the Minister of Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Goronyo, Minister-designate, Alhaji Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, Senator Adamu Aleiro among others.
