The Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity, Rep. Philip Agbese (APC-Benue), has urged members of the House to intensify efforts in building a stronger Nigeria.
Agbese who is also the Deputy Spokesperson of the House, in an interview on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the recent honours awarded to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Rep. Abubakar Bichi is a motivation for the House to work harder.
The lawmaker noted that the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) conferred on Speaker Abbas, and the honorary doctorate in engineering awarded to Rep. Abubakar Bichi (APC-Kano) by the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina, means that Nigerians are closely observing public officeholders.
He said: “These awards are a source of pride for all of us, a call for greater selfless service to God and humanity. We are thankful for Mr. President’s patriotism, and we pledge never to let Nigerians down.
“By this honor, every House member is reminded to play their part in contributing to noble causes. The recognition given to the Speaker and our Appropriation Chairman is proof that society is watching us. As legislators, this should inspire us to do better, not for recognition, but because we have been chosen at this moment to contribute towards a new Nigeria.”
Agbese, who represents Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency in Benue, praised Abbas for his empathy, compassion, and capability since becoming Speaker in 2023, describing him as a leader with integrity, known for his unblemished record both in academics and politics.
The Deputy Spokesperson also highlighted the significance of Bichi’s award, recognizing his impact on Nigeria’s educational development and urged all Nigerians to be inspired by Bichi’s achievements.
