Tinubu released minors on compassionate ground – VP Shettima

In a compassionate move, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the release of minors facing treason charges, emphasizing the humanitarian grounds for their liberation. While addressing the media at the Presidential Villa, Shettima highlighted the undeniable digital evidence that showed some protesters’ actions, which they themselves posted online.

He expressed concern over the estimated loss of over N300 billion due to the protests, which disrupted economic activities and damaged property.

During the reception of the released minors, who were among 114 #EndBadGovernance protesters cleared by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, Shettima stated, “The President, as a father to the nation, believes in giving these young men a chance to become responsible citizens capable of making a positive difference in Nigeria.”

He urged the minors to reject violence and destructive behavior, reminding them of the significant financial losses incurred during the protests. “You are our children, and this opportunity is a chance to grow and contribute positively to society,” he added.

The Vice President also called on governors and elected officials to unite and help reintegrate the minors into their communities, stating that their shared identity as Nigerians is more significant than any divisions.

The minors were officially welcomed after being discharged from a Federal High Court in Abuja, and they were handed over to their state governors, Uba Sani of Kaduna and Abba Yusuf of Kano. The event also saw the presence of several ministers and key political figures, including the Deputy Senate President, Jubrin Barau.
