Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Sunday night shot and killed a motorcyclist simply identified as Innocent, along Civil Defence Road in Ahoada Town, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, while robbing him.
The gunmen, numbering about three had stopped the commercial motorcycle rider along the road pretending to be passengers in need of a ride.
The innocent bike rider in an attempt to stop and convey the hoodlums to their destination, met his untimely death.
Our correspondent learnt that the motorcyclist after stopping to pick the gunmen disguised as passengers was shot and killed for resisting the robbery and attempting to escape the scene with his bike.
A source in the neighborhood who did not want to be named for security reasons said the bike rider after being shot was left in his own pool of blood along the road, while the criminals fled with his bike.
The source further revealed that the victim died hours later after he was rushed to a nearby hospital by his family members who got wind of the development and rushed in to save their brother’s life.
Our correspondent learnt that the incident was later reported to Ahoada Police Division in Ahoada main town.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command is yet to officially comment on the development, as the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko when contacted, promised to revert, but had yet to do so when this report was filed.
