Popular and multiple award-winning Nigerian producer, Michael Collins better known as Don Jazzy has come up to explain his side of the reported misunderstanding between him and his signee, Rema, describing him as an ungrateful person.
Don Jazzy who revealed that he had invested a huge amount of money up to the tune of over N2.5b in Rema; highest he had ever spent on any artiste since the beginning of his Marvins Record, hinted that his intention was to build him (Rema) to become a global superstar.
“Since when I start my record label “MAVINS RECORD” REMA is the only artist I have invested more than “N2.5 billion” in order to make him a global superstar, but when he started making huge amount of money he felt like I was not paying him enough money not thinking about the money we invested in his career”, Jazzy said.
He continued “ recently he was invited by some Indian billionaires to come perform at their Marriage and he was paid over $3Million and we decided to give him $1.3million from the money but he still feel like we are not treating him right and he even want us to terminate his contract with Mavin records”.
While revealing further that he had other artistes in his record label, Don Jazzy maintained that he won’t be signing any artiste, saying: “ I have over 6 artist in Mavin records but I choose to invest this huge amount of money on rema because I wanted him to be at the level of artist like Wizkid, Davido, Burnaboy and Asake and when the music started paying he wants us to terminate his contract, I’ll never sign any artist again moving forward I have seen a lot in the hands of young artist already”
Don Jazzy who is also a singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur was born on 26th November, 1982.
He co-founded the now dissolved Mo’ Hits Records in 2004 with D’banj. In 2012, he founded the Marvins Record and has produced hits for top Nigerian artists like D’banj, Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, etc.
Don Jazzy has also collaborated with international artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, and so forth.
His Mavin Records has signed notable artists such as Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, etc.
As an influential figure in Nigerian music industry, Don Jazzy also has to his credit other notable songs and albums like ‘Booty Call’ (D’banj), ‘Fall in Love’ (D’banj), ‘Eminado’ (Tiwa Savage), ‘Dorobucci” (Mavin All Stars), “Mavin Invasion” (album), just to mention but a few.
