The House of Representatives Press Corps (HORPC) has extended its congratulations to two of its members, Comrade Grace Ike and Jide Oyekunle, on their election as Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
Naijablitznews.com reports that Comrade Ike is the first female to be elected after 34 years and and the 17th Chairman of the NUJ-FCT Council.
Comrade Ike polled a total of 445 affirmative votes to emerge the first female Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, while Comrade Oyekunle, who entered the election unopposed, polled a total of 447 affirmed votes in the election conducted at the Council’s Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Chairman of the HORPC, Gboyega Onadiran, said:
“The House of Representatives Press Corps warmly congratulates Grace Ike and Jide Oyekunle on their well-deserved election as Chairman and Secretary of the FCT NUJ Council.
“We are delighted to see two dedicated and experienced journalists take the helm of the FCT NUJ Council. Your leadership will undoubtedly propel the council to greater heights, promoting the welfare of journalists and upholding the highest standards of journalism in the FCT.”
Onadiran also praised Grace Ike’s previous role as Chairman of the HORPC, stating:
“As Chairman of the House of Representatives Press Corps, Comrade Grace Ike demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant positive impacts on the lives of journalists.”
