…set to review agency’s 2024 budget performance
Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement, Senator Manu Haruna has ordered the Bureau for Public
Senator Manu made this disclosure during an interactive session with management of BPP on Tuesday evening at NASS complex.
He said: “As the National Assembly waits for the presentation
of the Appropriation Bill, 2025 by Mr. President; the Committee as a
subcommittee on Appropriation is open to review of the performance of the agency in 2024 and expeditious consideration of your budget proposal for the
smooth running of the agency.
” Therefore, the Committee urges you to meticulously package your budget proposal as we are here to support you realize
the goals and objectives of the agency.
Manu further explained that: “The meeting is an interactive session with the Director-General
of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun and the top Management
of the agency and the Senate Committee of Public Procurement in order to familiarize with the membership and officials of the Senate Public Procurement committee.
” This interactive meeting with you (the BPP) is in
consonance with the jurisdiction of the Committee as captured in the Senate Standing Orders Rule No. 96(57) which mandates this Committee to oversee:
(a) National Council of Public Procurement (yet to be constituted since 2007);
(b) Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP);
(c) Oversight of Implementation of the Public Procurement Act, 2007; in all
Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies; and
(d) Annual Budget Estimates;
OVERSIGHT: It is expedient to recall that our Committee in the 10th Senate has
not done any physical inspection/ oversight visit to your agency since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly. The committee would be delighted to carry out oversight visit to your office in order to get first hand information on the
working environment, needs assessment and challenges confronting the agency
if any.
” It is the resolve of the 10th Senate that in carrying out its statutory oversight functions, MDAS should ensure compliance to the Public Procurement Act and perceived loophole shall be strengthened through legislative framework.
