JUST-IN: Big blow to Delta PDP, as Ibori daughter dumps party for APC

It is big blow to Delta PDP as Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of ex- Delta State Governor James Ibori, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives.

She announced her defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter read on the House floor on Thursday.

Ibori-Suenu’s move marks a significant shift within the PDP, given her family’s prominent role in the party’s political structure in Delta State.

Her father, James Ibori, who served as Governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007, is widely regarded as a key political influencer within the PDP.

The defection comes amid a wave of similar moves by members of minority parties in the House. Earlier, four lawmakers from the Labour Party also announced their defection to the APC, signaling a growing trend of realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape.

Ibori-Suenu’s decision adds to the challenges facing the PDP as it seeks to maintain unity and influence in the House of Representatives amidst increasing defections to the ruling party. Analysts view this development as a potential boost for the APC as it continues to consolidate its position in the National Assembly.
