North’s opposition to Tinubu flames up as Jonathan’s 2027 Posters Flood Kano

Campaign posters featuring former President Goodluck Jonathan have recently appeared across key locations in Kano state, sparking widespread speculation about his possible candidacy for the presidency in the 2027 elections.

The posters, prominently displayed in high-traffic areas like the Gyadi-Gyadi/Zoo Road flyover, Kofar Nasarawa, and State Road, carry the slogan: “Team New Nigeria 2027: The Goodluck Nigeria Needs—Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.”

This surge of posters is seen by many as a strong indication that Jonathan may be considering a return to political office. However, his spokesperson, Okechukwu Eze, has not yet issued any formal statements regarding these developments, leaving the situation open to speculation.

In the past, Jonathan found himself in a similar situation when, ahead of the 2023 general elections, some of his supporters purchased nomination forms under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to secure his candidacy. However, Jonathan distanced himself from this movement, dismissing any intention to run for office in 2023.

The current campaign appears to be driven by a political movement known as Team New Nigeria (TNN), which is gaining traction across the country. Led by Modibbo Yakubu Farakwai, TNN emphasizes the need for a new direction in Nigerian politics. According to Farakwai, the group’s activities are motivated by widespread public demand for transformative leadership. “Nigerians are hungry for change and yearning for a new party with new faces to drive that change. They want a transformation in the culture and efficacy of governance at all levels,” he stated.

Team New Nigeria has been actively organizing, with the formation of a harmonization committee in Kano State. The group is also in the process of registering as an official political party with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). TNN claims to have mobilized over 26 million registered voters nationwide, and it has already developed critical structures, including a party logo, flag, constitution, and manifesto.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the rise of Team New Nigeria and the growing presence of Jonathan’s campaign posters have added a new layer of intrigue to the country’s political landscape, leaving many to wonder whether Jonathan is indeed preparing to re-enter the race.
